Asymptotic Behavior of Spherically Symmetric Marginally Trapped Tubes

چکیده

We give conditions on a general stress-energy tensor Tαβ in a spherically symmetric black hole spacetime which are sufficient to guarantee that the black hole will contain a (spherically symmetric) marginally trapped tube which is eventually achronal, connected, and asymptotic to the event horizon. Price law decay per se is not required for this asymptotic result, and in this general setting, such decay only implies that the marginally trapped tube has finite length with respect to the induced metric. We do, however, impose a smallness condition (B1) which one may obtain in practice by imposing decay on the Tvv component of the stress-energy tensor along the event horizon. We give two applications of the theorem to self-gravitating Higgs field spacetimes, one using weak Price law decay, the other certain strong smallness and monotonicity assumptions.

Marginally Trapped Tubes Generated from Nonlinear Scalar Field Initial Data

We show that the maximal future development of asymptotically flat spherically symmetric black hole initial data for a selfgravitating nonlinear scalar field, also called a Higgs field, contains a connected, achronal marginally trapped tube which is asymptotic to the event horizon of the black hole, provided the initial data is sufficiently small and decays like O(r− 1 2 ), and the potential fu...

Non-symmetric trapped surfaces in the Schwarzschild and Vaidya spacetimes

Marginally trapped surfaces (MTSs) are commonly used in numerical relativity to locate black holes. For dynamical black holes, it is not known generally if this procedure is sufficiently reliable. Even for Schwarzschild black holes, Wald and Iyer constructed foliations which come arbitrarily close to the singularity but do not contain any MTSs. In this paper, we review the Wald–Iyer constructio...

Spherically Symmetric Solutions in a New Braneworld Massive Gravity Theory

In this paper, a combination of the braneworld scenario and covariant de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive Gravity theory is proposed. In this setup, the five-dimensional bulk graviton is considered to be massive. The five dimensional nonlinear ghost-free massive gravity theory affects the 3-brane dynamics and the gravitational potential on the brane. Following the solutions with spherical s...

Asymptotic Behavior and Regularity for Nonlinear Dissipative Wave Equations in R

We discuss several results on asymptotic behavior and regularity for wave equations with nonlinear damping utt − ∆u + |ut|m−1ut = 0 in R+ × Rn, where m > 1. In particular, we show that ∇u ∈ Lm+1(I × Rn) for all initial data (u, ut)|t=0 ∈ H1(Rn) × L2(Rn) when m ≤ (n + 2)/n and I ⊂ R+ is a compact interval. We also consider global well-posedness in Sobolev spaces Hk(Rn)×Hk−1(Rn) for k > 2. The st...

Critical collapse of the massless scalar field in axisymmetry

We present the results from a numerical study of critical gravitational collapse of axisymmetric distributions of massless scalar field energy. We find threshold behavior that can be described by the spherically symmetric critical solution with axisymmetric perturbations. However, we see indications of a growing, nonspherical mode about the spherically symmetric critical solution. The effect of...
